![]() ![]() But as a Streets of Rage game, it's, in my opinion, the slowest (in terms of combos and level progression) and most frustrating out of all of them (Hardest/Mania). Nostalgia aside, I can say this is a good game. Do yourself a favor and play BKIII instead of SOR3, you'll have a better experience.ĥ- SOR 2. So it's a fun game but I can see why it's usually regarded as the worst. Bonus points for secret characters like Roo, Shiva, and Ash. Zan, who always felt a bit weird to play as. Even so, the music is kinda meh, the levels aren't as good looking as in the other games, and the only new addition to the cast was Dr. Glad I can use specials without needing to sacrifice health. Anyway, BK III is pretty fun, and the gameplay is smooth and fast-paced. If you don't know about this, I suggest investigating via Google. And I'm saying Bare Knuckle III because "Streets of Rage 3" is a complete downgrade from the japanese version. Most music remixes are awesome, and that's about it. regarding enemies, the Trucker looks awful, like other custom enemies), and even if there are *some* completely new areas, most of them are just the same levels as in the original trilogy, even if there are some diverging paths. Some animations look kinda meh (Rudra, Electra, Adam. however, I feel like it can be extremely unbalanced at some points. ![]() A store system, character customization, good variety of characters, the option to change the enemies' names, or even try and make your own level (never got this to work tho). Even tho it's not an official game, it did many things right. So a bit frustrating for veterans/completionists/masochists, but awesome for casuals.ģ- SOR Remake. At times it feels a bit unfair and unforgiving, specially when you aim for those S-ranks and trying to keep a really long combo, however that's a challenge that always makes me want to keep coming back to this game. Despite some flaws, it's the best looking one. Yes, the gameplay is a bit repetitive, but I personally don't mind.Ģ- SOR 4. Calling the police to do a "magic attack" like in Golden Axe is super satisfying. Best music by a milestone, simple gameplay, and easy to pick up for new people. Sure it was a graphical limitation of the time, but now everything is nice and beautiful, and somehow, it feels like the ergonomy was the one who got pummeled.ġ- SOR 1. This was very useful to judge where you were vertically and horizontally speaking relatively to others characters. You know a simple thing I miss? It's very silly, but I miss the round shadows under the characters. I end up cursing, yelling, restarting levels to get a better start over and over. There are so many cheap shots and unfair things, there is the problem of having to focus on trying to get high combos to score(I know, you could very well forget about the score, but I'm trying to play the game as intended and get better at it), there are characters which are at such a disadvantage because despite being remade, they weren't remade cleverly and aren't adapted to the new format, there are combinaisons of enemies which are extremely nasty. I play 4, and while I try to enjoy it, the fact is when I'm done with a session, I realise I didn't have fun. They did that with Double Dragon Neon, they did that Fight N' Rage, and now Street of Rage 4. I don't like the tendency of beat them all to try to become so close to fighting games, complete with combo, parries/counters, lot of difficulty to appeal to a kind of crowd I want no part of, and overall none of the actual fun and enjoyment that is the essence of beat them all. It lacks the grit and athmosphere of the older games.īasically, the order they came out is the order I prefer them. Still, not a bad game but it just doesn't feel SoR enough. But this just doesn't feel ike SoR much at times. Awesome graphics, animation and some great tunes. Some odd gameplay choices (like removing run and dodge-roll) also, I am not too much fan of the combo-juggling it feels like it belongs to another game. But it's just plays bit too different to be as enjoyable as the older games in the series. ![]() This is THE ultimate SoR experience and objectively the best game of the bunch.ĥ. Great gameplay (just like the originals) improved graphics, more levels, different routes. But because I don't have the power of nostalgia with this one, it takes the 4th place. Rather boring gameplay to be honest but great tunes.Ĥ. I have such good memories playing this game in the 90s.ģ. SoR 3 - Great sequel, maybe not as good as SoR 2, but still awesome game. i still play this, even 30 years later.Ģ. Top notch soundtrack, great atmosphere and gameplay. SoR 2 is my favourite, I grew up playing this game.
